i've sat and stared at my computer screen trying to find the words to write this blog post. as i've sat and thought the only thing that came to mind were the lyrics to "holding out for a hero" by ella mae brown.

"where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods? where's the streetwise hercules to fight the rising odds? isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed? late at night i toss and turn and dream of what i need. i need a hero, i'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night, he's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight. i need a hero, i'm holding out for a hero till the morning light, he's gotta be sure, he's gotta be soon, and he's gotta b larger than life. larger than life. somewhere after midnight in my wildest fantasies somewhere just beyond my reach there's someone reaching back for me. racing on the thunder and rising with the heat isn't there a superman to sweet me off my feet? I need a hero, i'm holding out for a hero till the end of night. he's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight. i need a hero i'm holding out for a hero till the morning light,  he's gotta be sure, he's gotta be soon, and he's gotta be larger than life. i pray the mountains meet the heavens above. out where the lightning splits the sea. i can swear that there's someone somewhere watching me. through the wind and the chill and the rain, and the storm and the raging flood. oh, his approach is like a fire in my blood. i'll meet a hero and then we'll dance till the morning light. dreaming, he will lead me, held tight, tonight's the night. i need a hero, i'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night he's gotta be strong, he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight. I need a hero, i'm holding out for a hero till the morning light. he's gotta be sure, he's gotta be soon, and he's gotta be larger than life, larger than life."

take it from a girl who has settled for less the i deserved, who has learned and who continues to learn from my mistakes. don't settle for less. you are wonderful, beautiful, talented, strong, independent women who deserve the very best. don't let any boy tell you other wise. wait for the boy who gives you butterflies. stop degrading yourself, if you want boys to treat you with respect....you first need to treat yourself with some.
